The bible tells us that Jesus was illegally and falsely accused, illegally arrested, beaten and nailed to cross. At any time during this process he could have called on ten thousand legions of angles to come and destroy those who were violating his rights and torturing his body. But he didn't/ Instead he said, " Father, forgive them. They don't know what they're doing. " Then he voluntarily went to the cross and procured the means of redemption for his executioners.
Rarely does the world follow Jesus' wisdom in situations like theses, and the world is the worse for it. That;s why God calls his followers to go against the tide, and to pursue reconciliation.
