making new friends...getting to know their life and their culture

while i was nursing some pains from a family grievious event (which i refuse to mention here as i want to forget it the soonest possible time from my memory) that brought me back home unexpectedly, my elder sister who invited me to stay in her place prodded her neighbor-friends to bring me to their fishpond and introduced me to their 'way-of-life-in-the-barrio' thus, i spent some time strolling the rice paddies, visiting their fishponds, catching bangus fish and crabs, climbing up the coconut tree and picking buko for a refreshing buko juice and buko salads, and drinking with them their kind of wine called 'tuba' and a commercially sold brandy called 'Matador'....

goin out in the field was a total discomfort for me as the temperature outside was terribly hot and extremely humid, it caused me so much sweating and i was feeling dehydrated, but then, my sister's neighbors were just as exciting to chat with as staying in my room, so i had to spend one morning with them, getting to know them and their way of life in the barrio...

so before the day was about to end, my new friends brought me to their dwelling places and toured me around the vicinity of the neighborhood...that was fulfilling to me as i wanted very much to reach out too, only that i was kinda shy to initiate the move...only to realize that they were worse than me...and were just waiting for me to start the conversation and all that...then the rest of the hours that we spent together was like we have known each other for a decade...

getting to know the children in the neighborhood was one of my goals: maybe just to give them the feel of a community belonging and a catechistic atmosphere.

getting to know their source of livelihood was a total curiosity to me. to them, love of work is instilled in the hearts and minds of the folks in all ages...so, there's no such thing as forced child labor or its opposite...

with my newfound buddies, we went to their fispond amidst the scorching heat of the morning sun...

and right then and there, we caught bangus fish and huge crabs...

after a couple of hours of exposure in the scorching heat of the sun, we decided to call it quits, took hold of our catch (crabs and bangus fish) and headed home for a sumptuous, yummy crab and bangus for lunch...

@ironnie,

yeah- i love my sister's barangay called balatasan- its a remote barangay in the middle of vast ricefields at the tip of the town of Calabanga- in the province of Camarines Sur -region V (bicol region)... gusto ko na doon sa kanya dahil tahimik mga tao- walang ingay at gulo at kung tutuusin nga ay mas liblib pa itong mundo ko sa mundo ng ate kong yun na tinuluyan ko....what i love most in that place is the presence of unadulterated greenery and nature..... which is present too in my world..kaya hindi ako nagkakarun ng monastic homesickness everytime i go home to the phils.

@sasha,

ay mainit pa rin dun sa balatasan, but the heat in metro manila was worst and horrible--naninindig ang mga balahibo ko sa init at nagsilabasan ang lahat ng fluids na naiipon ko sa aking katwan bwhahaha--such made me felt so weak and dehydrated.... pero sa gitna ng hirap na dinanas ko sa mga kamay ng init ng panahon- at gulong gulong trapik wherever i went, not mentioning yung pagkawala ko sa LRT/MRT, ay still masayang masaya pa rin ako dahil nagmeet na tayu in person!....kaya sis, kahit saan ka man naroon ngayun- isipin mo lang na lahat ng mga yun ay aking tiniis makita ka lamang nyahahahahahahaha..... ay tama ka, sa init nga ng panahon- yun bang para sa inyo ay maalinsangan na naglalapot lapot ang mga braso, mukha at lahat ng parte ng katwan na naka expose, para sa akin ay para na ako noong sinisilaban-, and napansin mo din pala na kahit nung dapit hapon na sa bahay ni brovince ay still pulang pula pa rin mukha ko dahil sa init- feeling ko nagsi akyatan sa mukha ko ang dugo sa katawan ko at ready na itong mag burst anytime..that was tough for me but i still did enjoy very much our eb with brovince despite of all those discomfort..baket nga ba september na ay ang init init pa rin diyan? samantalang dito sa amin ay chilling na ang mga baba namin at di na kami makatulog sa gabi ng walang thermal blanket covering our body.....

@bluepanjeet,

ey yung elder sister kong sinundan ko ang tinirahan ko--the last picture showing me and the bahay kubo is her house--it is so bahay kubo kahit munti, may halaman doon, na sari sari, singkamas at talong, sigarilyas at etc etc... hehehehe.
malamig ang sahig ng bahay nya dahil gawa sa bamboo at ang roof and walls nya ay gawa sa nipa shingles...i love her bahay kubo!....yung mga lalaki naman ay sina roni, at jeramy, mga kapitbahay ng ate ko-nakipag bonding ako sa kanila- mababait sila at matitino heheheh-pero pulos umiinom kaya napalaban ako sa inuman ng matador brandy-- i have pics of me and roni na nagkalasingan -may post it in the future ....
