snowstorm buried the hill of Saint Meinrad

"The heaviest snowfall in 13 years buried the hill of Saint Meinrad under a foot of snow Wednesday January 28th.

The storm shutterd schools and stores while tens of thousands of southern Indiana residents faced days without power after ice brought down power lines. The whole monastery and seminary suffered a power outtage for 30 hours making life miserable to hundreds of seminarians and monks of the monastery. I suffered too much from the freezing temperature in my room for almost two days!

According to the news, while ice was making life difficult along Indiana's Ohio River counties, residents in central and south-central Indiana were digging out from what for many was one of the heaviest snowfalls in the past decade.

The National Weather Service said storm totals ranged between 5 and 15 inches of snow by the time the storm pushed east of the state Wednesday.

Travel was hazardous and most school districts in the southern two-thirds of the state closed for the day. Some rural counties also issued warnings asking drivers to stay off roads."
