Sacrificial love has just one problem. If you really commit yourself to it, you will quickly find out out that it is extremely exhausting. After a certain amount of giving and serving and expending, you may begin to feel numb, as if you have nothing left to give. You are running on empty.
It is impossible to completely run out of love and then refill the tank. It is possible to love people not only sacrificially but also steadfastly. This is what God calls us to do- not to run the hundred yard dash in loving people, but to run the marathon. In order to do that, we have to learn how to refuel ourselves when we run out of love. Often we need God's help to refuel, and he's glad to offer it.
