Most of us would like our lives to have some impact on others. For some, the circle of impact may simply be the family. For others it may be much wider. They may become the moral leaders for a whole group of people or even a whole nation.
We will readily acknowledge that the priviledge of exercising an influence for good on other involve a commitment beyond more rhetoric. It must also involve the passion of purposeful action.
The power of example does not lie in great deeds of heroim or activism. It lies equally in the ability to articulate for others an ideology, a strategy, a way forward and a plan for action. This must, more over, tap into people 's deepest aspirations and combine realism with hope.
We therefore, need to become more self reflective, not in order to become more inward, but in order to be more discerning. Since the desire to influence others is always fraught with danger of illusion and the power of control, self reflection is required to unmask our own pretensions, to purify our motivations and to spur us forward in true humility.
