4th of July: America's Independence Day!

Today in America, the americans celebrate their anniversary as an independent country. This country was founded on the ideals of justice, personal liberties, and freedom from tyranny. These ideals were near and dear to the Hebrews of the early Christians, to the founding Fathers, and are still important issues today.

in observance of the day's significance, the Church Readings today focus on the concept of justice that brings about peace. That justice is one of the country's major ideas... that the plan is for everyone to be treated justly.... that the government's judicial system would be fair- so that the Americans would be guaranteed a fair trial, protections from improper incarceration, or torture even if found guilty...

In over two hundred years, the whole humanity is still struggling to form a more perfect union. The ideals of justice and liberty are still wonderful ideals, but we are still struggling to express them perfectly.

There are still people thirsting for righteousness- who are still persecuted for the sake of righteousness, still people trying to make peace....

well, i am not really that flag -wavering patriot but i firmly believe in the ideals of liberty and justice on which America was founded... For as long as we continue to value and encourage liberty and justice, and as long as there are those who are thirsting for righteousness and those who are trying to make peace...then we are still on the right track towards global peace and universal justice.

PS: today in the monastery- the monks are on their day-OFF...from monastic works and from their 8-times a day prayers in Church... and no cooks today as our neighboring community of Benedictine nuns will host the banquet celebration in a backyard-picnic setting at 1Pm and onwards....
with their invited guests and friends, the monks will join and share with them the the day's anniversary celebration....

Happy Independence day to the Americans, to the immigrants, and to the US-based Filipinos and Fil-Ams!
event-of-the-day images will be posted shortly!....
