The day i gave a Talk to my former co-teachers of San Beda Grade School

My home visit last January of this year did not only give me a big chance to take a good respite from the year-round non goin-out kind of life in the monastery.... Thanks to our Customary! With it, monks get a chance to visit and be with their families and friends once a year for 25 days visit inclusive of travel time.

Months before my scheduled home visit (that was November of last year) , one of my former administrators in the school where I taught for almost twenty years before I came over the USA and joined the monastery, sent me a letter of invitation asking me to be their Resource Speaker in their Faculty development Seminar that was scheduled on January 25, 2007.
She further explained that this faculty gathering will be one of the series of activities that will be conducted within their week-long celebration of the school's annual 'Pista Ng Sto Nino Sa San Beda' ( Festivities in honor of the Feast of the Holy Infant Jesus ).
Without much thinking, and with much eagerness, I wrote her back and accepted her invitation. The main topic I was asked to deal with the faculty was 'Benedictine Values and Spirituality in an Educational Environment'.

I guess, my superior gave me his blessing and permission to accept the job as its date would coincide with the days that i will be in the Philippines for my 2007 home visit.

The Talk went well, though it was not the primary reason why I accepted the job of being their resource speaker. It was the thought that the event would give me a good chance to visit and to see and talk with my former colleagues and friends in the Academe where I used to serve and live 19 years of my life....

the highlights of my visit:...the administrator who invited me as their resource speaker, Mrs Erlinda Mercado, the coordinator of activities in the GS dept. , gave an introduction of me to the members of the faculty.

...discussing the topic: ...."the essence of being a Benedictine educator" et al...

...receiving a plaque of appreciation from their Gs principal Dom Angelo. OSB

...giving the faculty members a short talk about the kind of monastic life that I live now... and giving the crowd a "thank you speech" as well...

after my Talk, banquet followed. Afterwards, a seemed-like unending souvenir poses followed...
-with the former Asst Principal Hayda Villona, who's now assigned in the CAS Science laboratory and the principal himself.

-with Tes Battad, the current Asst principal and Mon Guinto, the former Prefect of Studies for several years who's now the College Registrar.

-with Erlinda Mercado, who cordinated the main affair of that day (including the catering of the banquet.)
...it's so good to go back to the place where one has spent half of his life in the past.
it's so moving to once again be with one's former friends and colleages...
...it's a very fulfilling and nice feeling to be reunited with one's former peers.
...it's a great feeling to be once again reunited with one's former world, that nurtured him for so long a time in his life.

@ellen,
