baking bread in the most unholy hours of the night!..

Although it was Friday, desert day, and it was supposed to be a day of 'rest' or freeday or 'holiday' for all of us, yet before the day ended, it seemed to me that work indeed was really chasing me...

in the evening of friday before the last prayer was said, my superior agitatedly whispered to me that the loaves of bread in the refrigerator were all gone!... we ran out of bread!!!!!!!!---and in the early morning of tomorrow after Vigils, monks and guests will be taking their breakfast without bread! its gonna be their worst breakfast ever...if nothing will be done.

so, as per request by my superior, and as the kitchen manager too,- i needed to mobilize myself and get ready for bread baking in the middle of the night.......
i started the whole process at 8:30pm and finished the work just before midnight....

well, that's what life is all about in a religious community like mine...commitment to work is very essential....and in times like this: what i can only whisper to my own ears is: persevere lawrence, persevere!...(hirap atang magbake ng isang dosenang tinapay sa kalagitnaan ng gabi nohhhh!) it's hard and it's not a joke to bake a dozen of loaves of bread in the middle of the night when you know that you are supposed to be in bed sleeping and you know that everybody else in the whole monastery (even Greta our pet dog, and cirilo our pet cat) is already asleep in their soft warm beds while you are still up doing such stuff in the kitchen.
i guess i would need to sleep-in and skip the 4Am Vigils and the 5:45Am Lauds...however, i need to be up for the 6:15 Mass.

Gotta sleep now...it's already 1:45Am and i'm that exhausted...

I can understand your situation knowing the process of what they call "vow of obedience"...

just one thing...you mentioned about ..."commitment to work" ...maybe, it would be better translated as commitment to God...as you will be putting more faith in what you are doing, hence persevering will be not too burdening whenever you see your co monks...sleeping in their warm bed while you are still baking at the middle of the night!

hey, thnks for dropping by and thnks also for reminding me that i should say commitment 'to God' rather than 'to our monastic work' inside the cloister though it's vividly reflecting an unending commitment to HIM,that is, through the performance of our duties and obligations for the good and welfare of the brethren...fos as what is said in the Scripture- "whatever you do to my brethren, you do it to me...."
anyways, i appreciate your thoughts about it- i am glad you bumped into my site and be able to share your point of views about matters like this..sometimes it is very good to have people like you who does the 'checking' for sometimes, we get unfocused and play complacent....you are the spice that adds to my life here in my world....thnks a lot- i checked on you site, and i liked it- can i subscribe your feed or link it to my list?..
